Gestational Diabetes Remains Only During Pregnancy

Posted by medical in May 5th 2012

Though not every pregnant woman has to deal with gestational diabetes it is nevertheless a disease that can and does affect women during their pregnancies and more particularly during their second trimester. For a woman that is pregnant or who may become pregnant in the near term it is necessary that she learns about what gestational diabetes is and how best to cope with the condition should it arise.

Gestational Diabetes:Serious Health Concern

Fortunately, only a mere four percent of pregnant mothers actually end up developing gestational diabetes though the condition, once it develops, is a serious health issue that must be dealt with promptly and effectively. The rise in diabetic instances makes it necessary to be on the lookout for gestational diabetes as you never know when and how diabetes can strike.

Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetesthat occurs during pregnancy and then disappears following delivery of the baby. Of course, in rare instances it may persist following childbirth and can then develop into a Type 2 diabetes condition. The most commonly cited reason for development of gestational diabetes is that the hormones change during the pregnancy period and this is believed to cause the problem though this is more of a supposition than an absolutely established fact.

Regardless of what causes gestational diabetes it must be dealt with as soon as it is diagnosed because it poses a danger to mother and child. Unfortunately, the diagnosis of gestational diabetes is often delayed because the symptoms are not so obvious that they can be detected as soon as the condition develops.

At the very least, pregnant mothers should be tested during their twenty-fourth and twenty-eighth weeks of their pregnancies which is when the symptoms are most noticeable and so can be identified more easily. When one goes bathroom frequently, feels hungry after taking food and feels thirst even after drinking water, he is suspected to be the patient of gestation diabetes.

Making some routine changes in diet of a pregnant mother, the high level of blood sugar is easily controlled in case of gestational diabetes.

In fact, if you plan the gestational diabetes diet properly you will stand an excellent chance of defeating the disease. This diet will help reverse the gestational diabetes symptoms and in addition can ensure that the delivery passes off smoothly and that your baby too is born into this world in good health.

Effectively Monitoring Blood Glucose Levels

Posted by medical in May 5th 2012

To monitor your blood glucose levels, you need to have a glucometer or a glucose meter. This device can inform you how much glucose is in your blood. Using this device requires you to produce a relatively small amount of blood for the machine to read. In most cases, lancets are included in glucose meter kits as well as a lancing device.

The first step is to put a new lancet in the lancing device. Then, you need to take a test strip from the bottle and replace the cap after doing so. Then, you have to insert the test strip in to the glucose meter to get it ready for use. Make sure that you disinfect your hands first by washing it and applying disinfecting alcohol. Also, make sure that your hand is dry as water or liquid can produce varying result on the glucose reading.

Then, prick the tip of your finger with the lancing device and let blood flow out of it. Take the required amount of blood sample and place it on the test strip. Most devices will automatically read the blood glucose level from the sample you provided and will produce results in just a few seconds. Apply disinfected cotton on the area from where you drew blood.

Through away the test strip and the used lancet immediately. You have to record the result in a log book in order for you to effectively monitor your blood glucose levels during the day effectively. This will help you in preparing meals as well as know what kind of activities that you should do or not do.

Improper management during diabetes can be serious and create number of problems. If you are living with diabetes, make sure that you know how to manage it in order for you to live a normal life.  High Field Stand-Up MRI vs. the Traditional “older technology” Open MRI

Washington Open MRI now has the world’s only high field full-body Open MRI scanner that can scan patients in the sitting or standing position.

Our new Stand-Up Open MRI technology allows you to watch your favorite TV shows during your Open MRI scan!
No more fear of claustrophobia or being squeezed into a tube – now this is what you want.

Washington Open MRI’s Stand-Up Open-MRI is the world’s only Patient-Friendly™ scanner.
Our Open MRI technology is totally open!

This technological breakthrough is second to none in the MRI imaging world, and fully reimbursed by all insurance carriers at no additional cost to the patient.

The revolutionary open MRI scanner features the only MRI-compatible, motorized, multi-positional, patient positioning system, which has been engineered to be fully functional Inside the scanner’s magnetic field. It can position the patient for the conventional “lie-down” MRI scanning, or upright for weight-bearing studies. The full length of the spine can be imaged in the normal weight-bearing posture, even with the patient touching their toes for full fexion images of the lumbar spine. Flexible (standing, sitting, bending) patient positions that are impossible on conventional “lie-down” MRI scanners are routine on Washington Open MRI’s new Stand-Up Open MRI.

The patient positioning system is tilted back slightly (approximately five degrees) in order to stabilize the patient and avoid body motion during stand-up scanning. Patients can be positioned facing the poles, which enables a large range of motion for scans of the shoulder. Scans can also be obtained with lateral flexion of the lumbar spine NO OTHER MRI can perform this diagnostic procedure. This new Stand-Up Open MRI is based on FONAR’s proven high-field technology, which means it delivers exceptional scanning speed and high-resolution imaging second to none. The combination of the transaxial magnetic field and any of FONAR’s array of high signal-to-noise solenoidal surface coils is one of the key reasons why the new Weight-Bearing Stand-Up or Sit-Down Open MRI is second-to-none in image quality. Its full range of advanced software features and state-of-the-art pulse sequences provide unparalleled diagnostic precision.

In Medicine…

Often an upright position is the only position in which the patient’s symptoms occur and can be diagnosed. Certain cardiovascular and neurological disorders exhibit their symptoms primarily when the patient is upright. The same is true of the GI tract and the neck, spine and joints, including hips, knees and ankles. Coupled with MRI’s unparalleled ability to “see” soft tissues, Stand-Up Open MRI gives physicians a more global view of pathology and its impact on function.

From the perspective of medicine, Stand-Up Open MRI provides a dramatic view of the body’s interior. For the first time, Washington Open MRI brings to the medical practice the newfound ability to see all the body’s organs and tissues in their normal position of function – upright.

This technological breakthrough is second to none in the MRI imaging world, and fully reimbursed by all insurance carriers at no additional cost to the patient.

Exercise Tips to Feel Better – Back Pain Relief

Posted by medical in May 3rd 2012

Yoga for Lower Back Pain : Cat Cow Yoga Pose for Lower Back Pain

If you are like me chances are you will experience back pain. It could be as simple as a pulled/strained muscle or as serious as a herniated disc. There are many causes of an aching back and as I dig deeper into the subject I find more and more ways a person can end up with a bad back. It’s important to understand these cause so one can avoid the pain and discomfort that comes from having a sore back.

It is absolutely vital that you consult your medical care provider for exercise techniques that are safe for you to do. Some individuals have other medical conditions that can restrict their options for pain relief techniques.

Older Age: Okay as we age muscles get weaker and bone loses calcium. Disc in the spine lose flexibility and deteriorate.

Female Gender: Again I don’t know why unless it has something to do with pregnancy.

Physically Strenuous Work : Again makes sense..

This next exercise is a “spin off” if you will of the above exercise. Again, you will need to find a hard flat surface for this exercise as well. Here, you will lie completely flat on your back and use your arms to bring both of your legs up as close to your chest as possible. Hold your legs in this position for up to 10 seconds and slowly relax your legs back down to the floor. You should repeat this exercise three times.

Finding the right back pain relief exercise for you and your individual issue might prove to be a trial and error scenario. However, more than likely you will find a great exercise program with the assistance of your medical care provider to meet all of your needs and relieve your back pain. If you feel the pain has intensified in any way while you are exercising you should immediately stop the exercising and contact your medical care provider for other suggestions.
