Sciatica is caused by closed packing of the nerve root. It is very often misunderstood as a lower back pain or leg pain. It involves a number of symptoms. Though genetics can play its own part in the recovery chances (and rate) of a person with a herniated disc, a general solution in treatment is applied-that of adequate rest from all physical rigor, and the use of a back support. The services of a trained physiotherapical masseur will come in handy very greatly to supplement stretching exercise.

Massage or regular exercises can be done to loosen the muscles, which in turn reduce the swelling, and this helps in reducing the back pain. The patient may need physiotherapy for a long period of time. Physiotherapy and changes in posture will show a lot of improvement in the person.

A few ways to improve posture would be – finding a suitable to chair to sit in or at least alternate to any suitable seating posture. A pillow could also be used to give some additional support to the back. At times, it is no harm to take anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce the swelling faster so as to prevent any radiation of pain. Please note that long hours of standing are of no help in this matter.
